Elliott Sadler has pole for Allstate 400 at the Brickyard

INDIANAPOLIS - Sadler was the fastest of 52 qualifiers with a lap at 184.116 miles per hour in a Ford Taurus. Jeremy Mayfield joins Sadler in the front row with a lap of 183.053 mph in his Dodge Charger.

"I want to try to put all the pieces together and kiss those bricks," Sadler said. "Winning here at the Brickyard is like winning the Daytona 500 - it makes or breaks a career. I really believe that deep down inside."

Defending champion Gordon will start seventh in a Chevrolet. He is attempting to become the first driver with five victories on this 2 1/2-mile oval. Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is 15th in the standings and, like Gordon, is desperately trying to qualify for the 10-race "Chase for the Championship," - will start 27th in a Chevrolet.
